World Metrology Day 2026 Observed with Policy-Making Theme

World Metrology Day 2026 was observed on May 20 with the theme “Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making.”

World Metrology Day is observed every year on May 20 to highlight the importance of measurement science in trade, science, technology, governance and daily life. The theme for 2026 was “Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making.” The day commemorates the Metre Convention and is jointly organised by the International Organization of Legal Metrology and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. UNESCO officially proclaimed May 20 as World Metrology Day in 2023, with formal observance beginning in 2024.
