UMMID Programme Phase-II Launched for Rare Genetic Disorders
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched Phase-II of the UMMID Programme to improve diagnosis, counselling and treatment support for rare genetic disorders in India.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched Phase-II of the Unique Methods of Management and Treatment of Inherited Disorders, known as the UMMID Programme, under the Department of Biotechnology. The programme focuses on rare genetic disorders and aims to strengthen molecular diagnosis, genetic counselling, clinician training and public health support. Under Phase-II, 25 additional NIDAN Kendras will be set up across 13 states and one Union Territory. The programme also includes proposed training centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chandigarh. UMMID was first launched in 2019 as India’s national initiative for inherited disorder diagnosis and management.
