Railways clears Malda electronic interlocking project
Indian Railways approved a ₹274 crore electronic interlocking project across 20 locations in Malda Division of Eastern Railway. The project is aimed at upgrading signalling reliability, safety and readiness for future systems such as Kavach.
The project will replace relay-based interlocking with advanced Electronic Interlocking technology at 18 stations and 2 IBS locations. The Ministry said the modernisation will improve maintainability, efficiency and safer train operations on a busy corridor. It is also expected to support faster and more reliable train movement as traffic grows. For exams, the topic is important under transport modernisation, railway safety and indigenous signalling upgrades.
