Railways Approves ₹405 Crore Signalling Upgrade
Indian Railways approved a ₹405 crore signalling modernisation project on Eastern Railway to improve safety and reliability.
The project will replace relay-based interlocking systems with Electronic Interlocking at 32 stations and locations on High Density Network and Highly Utilised Network routes. It includes 25 Panel Interlocking or Route Relay Interlocking stations and 7 Intermediate Block Signalling locations. Electronic Interlocking improves reliability, reduces signalling failures and enables faster fault detection. The project is also aligned with future railway technologies such as Kavach, Automatic Block Signalling and Centralised Traffic Control.
