The Department of Telecommunications introduced citizen-friendly upgrades under the PM-WANI framework. The changes include QR-based authentication for laptops and secondary devices, short-duration Wi-Fi plans and standardised PM-WANI hotspot names. The reform is aimed at improving public Wi-Fi access and digital inclusion. It is linked to India’s digital public infrastructure and connectivity agenda.
