Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth Appointed Next Army Chief

The Government appointed Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff with effect from 30 June 2026.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, then serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, was appointed the next Chief of the Army Staff. He will take charge from the afternoon of 30 June 2026 after the retirement of General Upendra Dwivedi. Lt Gen Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986 and has served in several operational and strategic roles. He has commanded South Western Command and Southern Command, making the appointment important for defence and appointments-based current affairs.
