INS Trikand foils piracy threat in Gulf of Aden
Indian Naval Ship Trikand responded to a piracy attempt on MV Golden Arsenal in the Gulf of Aden and helped secure the vessel. The operation underlined India’s continuing anti-piracy role and maritime security presence in the Indian Ocean Region.
The attempted pirate attack was reported on 1 July 2026 when the merchant vessel was sailing from Aden and was located around 300 nautical miles east-northeast of Djibouti. After coordination through the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region, INS Trikand was directed to intercept the vessel. On 2 July, an Indian Navy boarding team sanitised the ship, while a P-8I maritime patrol aircraft supported surveillance in the area. No suspicious personnel were found, the immediate threat was neutralised and the vessel resumed its onward voyage.
