India to chair UNCTAD expert session on consumer protection
India announced that it will chair UNCTAD’s Ninth Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection in Geneva from 6 to 8 July 2026. India will also participate in the launch of the United Nations Principles for Consumer Product Safety.
The Department of Consumer Affairs said Secretary Nidhi Khare will chair the three-day session at Palais des Nations, Geneva. The session will discuss consumer information, sustainable consumption, cross-border consumer protection and enforcement challenges in global markets. This is important for exams because it highlights India’s role in shaping global consumer protection norms and connects domestic tools like the National Consumer Helpline and e-Jagriti with international policy forums.
