India Steel Sector Maintains Q1 FY27 Growth

India’s crude steel production reached 42.1 Mt and finished steel production reached 40.6 Mt during April-June 2026.

The Ministry of Steel released provisional data showing continued growth in the steel sector during Q1 FY 2026-27. Crude steel production stood at 42.1 Mt during April-June 2026, compared with 40.8 Mt in the corresponding period of the previous year. Finished steel production increased to 40.6 Mt from 38.7 Mt, while finished steel consumption rose to 41.6 Mt. India’s crude steelmaking capacity reached about 222 MTPA as of June 2026. The data is important for tracking industrial output, infrastructure demand and progress toward the National Steel Policy target of 300 MTPA by 2030.
