India-Japan Adopt JCM Rules Under Paris Agreement
India and Japan adopted the Rules of Implementation for the Joint Crediting Mechanism under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
The Government of India and the Government of Japan adopted the Rules of Implementation for the Joint Crediting Mechanism on 8 June 2026, and the development was reported on 16 June 2026. The mechanism comes under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement and supports cooperative climate action through carbon-crediting arrangements. It is significant because it can help both countries promote low-carbon technologies, emission reduction projects and climate finance cooperation. For India, the arrangement is relevant to climate diplomacy, carbon markets and energy-transition policy.
