INCOIS Launches Specialized El Niño Bulletins

INCOIS started specialized El Niño bulletins to warn maritime sectors about rising sea temperatures, marine heat stress and coastal risks.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services started releasing specialized El Niño bulletins for maritime operators. The first bulletin stated that the El Niño event was continuing to develop and may peak during November 2026 to January 2027. It warned that Indian Ocean sea surface temperatures could remain above normal until April or May 2027. The bulletin also flagged risks such as coral bleaching, marine heat waves, reduced fish catch and rough sea conditions in the Bay of Bengal during the monsoon season.
