Health Ministry Operationalises Jan Vishwas Reforms
The government operationalised Jan Vishwas Act reforms in the health sector on 26 June 2026. The changes rationalise minor offences under drugs, cosmetics and food safety laws by shifting several technical violations to an administrative penalty framework.
The reform package aims to reduce compliance burden and promote trust-based governance without diluting public health safeguards. Certain minor and procedural violations under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the Food Safety and Standards Act have been decriminalised. At the same time, serious offences affecting public health and consumer safety continue to attract strict legal action. The government also introduced adjudicating authority and appeal mechanisms for faster and more transparent disposal of such cases.
