Government Raises Onion Procurement Price

The government raised the onion procurement price for the Price Stabilisation Buffer by 13% from ₹1,875 to ₹2,125 per quintal with effect from 4 July 2026. Procurement through NAFED and NCCF is continuing to support farmers and buffer stocking.

The revision in onion procurement price is aimed at ensuring better returns to onion farmers while strengthening the government’s buffer stock management. Onion prices and buffer operations are important in Indian economic policy because they influence food inflation and market intervention strategies. This update is also relevant for understanding the role of NAFED, NCCF and the Price Stabilisation Buffer in agricultural marketing. Students should connect this topic with inflation control and food supply management.
