Fertilizer Ships Cross Strait of Hormuz

Four fertilizer cargo ships carrying Urea, DAP and Sulphur crossed the Strait of Hormuz to support India’s kharif-season supply.

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers reported that four cargo ships carrying Urea, Di-Ammonium Phosphate and Sulphur crossed the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels were headed to Krishnapatnam, Kakinada, Paradeep and Mundra ports. India’s fertilizer stock as of 22 June 2026 stood at 196.08 lakh tons, higher than 168.67 lakh tons a year earlier. The government also stated that India had contracted 17.70 LMT of urea in its latest global tender. The development is important because fertilizer security affects kharif sowing, food production and import supply-chain resilience.
