DRI Seizes Smuggled Cigarettes in North-East

DRI seized around 71 lakh foreign-origin smuggled cigarette sticks worth about Rs 14 crore in the North-Eastern Region.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence carried out coordinated anti-smuggling operations in the North-Eastern Region. Since May 2026, DRI operations resulted in the seizure of about 71 lakh foreign-origin smuggled cigarette sticks valued at nearly Rs 14 crore. Four persons were arrested in these cases. In a major Mizoram operation on 11 June 2026, more than 45 lakh cigarette sticks were seized with assistance from the 34th Battalion, Assam Rifles, and preliminary investigation indicated smuggling through the Indo-Myanmar border.
