Draft Medical Devices Rules Amendments Proposed
The Union Health Ministry proposed amendments to the Medical Devices Rules, 2017 to streamline licensing procedures. The draft changes aim to reduce the timeline for grant of manufacturing licences and improve ease of doing business.
Medical devices regulation is a major policy area because it affects both healthcare quality and domestic manufacturing. The proposed amendments seek procedural simplification while retaining the regulatory architecture for device approval and oversight. For exams, the development is important in the context of India’s medical technology sector, health regulation and manufacturing reforms. It also connects with the broader Make in India and regulatory rationalisation themes.
