Core Industries Index Base Year Revised
The Office of Economic Adviser released the revised Index of Core Industries series with 2022-23 as the new base year. The revised series replaces the earlier 2011-12 base year.
The Office of Economic Adviser under DPIIT released the first press release of the revised Index of Core Industries on 20 July 2026. The base year has been revised from 2011-12 to 2022-23 to better reflect structural changes in the Indian economy. Iron ore has been added as a new item in the revised series. With this change, the number of core industries has increased from eight to nine. The Index of Core Industries is important because it tracks key infrastructure sectors and influences the wider Index of Industrial Production.
