Coal Ministry Opens Applications for Gasification Promotion Scheme

The Ministry of Coal invited applications under the ₹37,500 crore scheme for promoting surface coal and lignite gasification projects.

The Ministry of Coal opened the application process under the Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects. The scheme was approved in May 2026 with a total financial outlay of ₹37,500 crore. It aims to promote the conversion of coal and lignite into synthesis gas for producing chemicals, fuels and other industrial products. Coal gasification can reduce dependence on imported natural gas, methanol, ammonia and related feedstocks.
