Chandrayaan-3 Receives 2026 AIAA Goddard Astronautics Award

ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission received the 2026 Goddard Astronautics Award for its historic Moon landing near the lunar south pole.

ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 mission received the 2026 Goddard Astronautics Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The award recognised Chandrayaan-3’s successful soft landing near the Moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023. India became the fourth country to achieve a successful Moon landing after the Soviet Union/Russia, the United States and China. The mission also made India the first country to land near the lunar south pole, a region considered important because of possible water ice reserves and future lunar exploration potential.
