Centre Reviews Kharif Preparedness Amid El Niño Concerns

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed Kharif 2026 preparedness, contingency plans, fertiliser availability and crop strategy amid possible El Niño conditions.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a high-level review meeting on Kharif 2026 preparedness at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi. The meeting focused on possible El Niño conditions, district-wise contingency plans and fertiliser availability. The Minister directed special attention to low-rainfall districts and stressed increasing cotton production through a mission-mode campaign. He also emphasised self-reliance in pulses such as pigeon pea, black gram and moong to reduce import dependence.
