AI Tracks Solar Activity from Century-Old Records

Scientists used AI to analyse 100 years of Sun records from Kodaikanal Solar Observatory to track bright solar regions from 1916 to 2007.

The study used artificial intelligence to examine hand-drawn solar records and identify magnetically active bright regions on the Sun. This provides a longer historical view of solar variability and activity cycles. Such work is valuable for astrophysics, space weather and long-term solar research.
